President's Office Press Release

Appointment of Honorary Aides-de-Camp to the President
Saturday, 15 May 2004 at 10.30am at Istana State Room

1 The annual appointment ceremony for the Honorary Aides-De-Camp (ADC) to the President will be held on Saturday, 15 May 2004. A total of 94 officers from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) will receive Certificates of Appointment from President S R Nathan. New appointees will also receive a Presidential Cipher, which they will wear on their uniforms in their daily work when not performing ADC duty.

2 A new full-time ADC to the President will also be appointed at the ceremony. He is Major Teo Peng Yong, Danny and will take over from Maj Andy Yun Tar Aun when the latter returns to the Singapore Armed Forces on completion of his 2-year stint with the President’s Office.

3 ADCs perform a multitude of tasks as facilitators and personal representatives of the President. They are identifiable by the thick distinctive cords known as “Aiguilettes” worn across their right shoulders. The duties of Honorary ADCs range from receiving and ushering dignitaries and guests at Presidential State functions to receiving and sending off visiting Foreign Heads of State. They are also assigned to escort Foreign Heads of State during their official visits to Singapore.

4 Of the 94 officers appointed as Honorary ADCs, 23 are lady officers and 13 are National Servicemen. Table 1 & 2 offer more details on the mix of Honorary ADCs by service and rank.
