Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong has, on 10 August 2004, tendered his letter of resignation and that of his government to take effect on 12 August 2004 when his successor is so appointed. In his letter of resignation, Prime Minister Goh has advised that Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister, commands the confidence of the majority of Members of Parliament and that he be appointed as the next Prime Minister. The President has accepted Prime Minister Goh’s letter of resignation and intends to appoint Mr Lee Hsien Loong as Prime Minister.
Consequently, the President has invited Mr Lee Hsien Loong to form the next government. Mr Lee Hsien Loong will be appointed as Prime Minister, receive his instrument of appointment and take his Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office on 12 August 2004 at the Istana. |
