ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT TONY TAN KENG YAM AT THE TEA RECEPTION FOR NATIONAL DAY PARADE 2015 KEY ORGANISERS AND PARTICIPANTS ON 19 AUGUST 2015
Ladies and Gentlemen
My wife and I are indeed very happy to host this reception to thank and congratulate the National Day Parade (NDP) 2015 Organising Committee and the participants for putting up a very successful National Day Parade on 9th August 2015. Well done!
The parade was a highlight in our Golden Jubilee celebrations. It was very meaningful that the parade returned to the Padang this year, a historic and significant site where Singapore had our first National Day Parade in 1966. This year, over 7,000 participants and 11,000 working parties, across all ages from as young as 5 years to 84 years old, came together to perform in this spectacular parade.
More than 200,000 spectators around the Marina Bay, as well as millions of viewers in Singapore and around the world watched the parade, which was a remarkable show befitting of our Golden Jubilee celebrations. Through the parade and show segments, we were reminded of the challenges that Singapore faced when we become independent and how our pioneers overcame these challenges by working together against the odds to get us to where we are today. We paid tribute to our pioneers, celebrated our uniqueness, and looked forward with optimism that Singapore can continue to thrive as a progressive and vibrant, safe and secure, multi-cultural society.
I would like to thank all of you – representatives from the Ministry of Defence, The Singapore Armed Forces, The Singapore Police Force, The Singapore Civil Defence Force, Touch Community, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore SOKA Association, People’s Association, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAFRA, Heartware, and many others who have worked tirelessly behind the scene – for your many hours of dedication, strong support and participation in this year’s National Day Parade.
Thank you once again for your support. My wife and I look forward to interacting with you all of at the reception. Thank you very much.
