Re-appointment of Mr J Y Pillay as Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers

In accordance with the Constitution, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA), vacated the office of Chairman of the Council when Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam assumed office as the seventh President of Singapore.
President Tony Tan has reappointed Mr Pillay to be the Chairman of the CPA with effect from 12 September 2011.
Mr Pillay was first appointed to the CPA on 2 January 2001, and has served as Chairman of the CPA since 2 September 2005. As Chairman of the CPA, Mr Pillay exercises the functions of the office of the President in the absence of the President. If he is unavailable, this duty then falls on the Speaker of Parliament.
