State Events
Opening of Parliament
The President opens each Session of Parliament and delivers an address laying out the key priorities of the Government.
Swearing-in ceremonies
The President officiates at swearing-in ceremonies of key appointment holders such as the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, the Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court.
National Day Parade
The President presides over the annual National Day Parade.
Conferment of National Awards
The President confers awards, such as the National Day Awards, on the advice of the Cabinet.
Foreign Relations
State Visits
The President promotes ties between Singapore and other countries by hosting visiting dignitaries and making state visits overseas.
A meeting between countries at the Head of State level is the highest form of diplomatic exchange. Such exchanges promote international and bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade and investments, defence, education, research and development, and arts and culture.
Presentation of Credentials
All foreign ambassadors and high commissioners will present their credentials to the President before assuming office in Singapore.
The President also presents letters of credence to Singapore's ambassadors and high commissioners before they assume office overseas.
