Miniature Silver Horse Cart

The late Agatha Barbara, who was the third President of Malta, presented this gift to the late President Wee Kim Wee during her five-day State Visit to Singapore in February 1986.

This silver gift is a stylised depiction of a horse and buggy cart with three round baskets and a silver tray, executed in delicate filigree work.

The Maltese karozzin is a traditional horse-drawn carriage that served as an essential means of transport in Malta before the widespread use of motor vehicles. Dating to the 19th century, it provided connections between villages across the islands.
