Toikka Blow-glass Bird Sculpture

Finland's President Alexander Stubb presented this gift to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam during his State Visit to Finland, Helsinki from June 24 to 25, 2024.

This gift is a hand-blown glass bird from the Birds by Toikka collection, a celebrated series of art glass designed by Finnish designer Oiva Toikka. Each piece is mouth-blown by master glassblowers, who inflate molten glass using a blowpipe and carefully shape their form by hand.

The process involves repeated shaping and reheating, with additional stages required to incorporate multiple colours, patterns, and decorative elements.
