In the last 20 years, PC has raised over $200 million for more than 250 VWOs
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of President’s Challenge, President Halimah Yacob launched a new logo and vision statement for President’s Challenge during the Lunar New Year Istana Open House on Sunday, 26 January 2020. The new vision statement, “Empowering Lives, Uplifting Communities”, builds upon the history of President’s Challenge in building a caring and cohesive society.
Speaking to the media after the launch, President Halimah said:
“I am delighted to join Singaporeans to usher in the year of the Rat at today’s Istana Open House.
I am also happy to launch the new logo and vision statement for President’s Challenge (PC) 2020 to commemorate the PC’s 20th anniversary.
First started by former President S R Nathan as a fund raising initiative, PC has raised over $200 million for more than 250 VWOs in the last 20 years. In recent years, PC has also included volunteerism and social entrepreneurship as different forms of giving back. Many partners have contributed in this journey.
But as the needs of our society change, our approach of support for the less fortunate also has to similarly evolve. Therefore, since 2018, PC has moved beyond providing assistance; to also look into empowering those less fortunate, so that we can bring about more sustained changes to their lives. Empowerment is now a key theme across all three pillars of PC – whether it is in fund raising, volunteerism or social entrepreneurship, the ultimate goal is to empower the beneficiaries, so that we can help them change their circumstances for good.
To encapsulate this new phase of PC, we have developed a new logo and vision statement. The focus of PC in the coming years should be to rally Singaporeans in empowering and uplifting the lives of the vulnerable in our community. Together, we can return the sense of purpose and dignity to those less fortunate, and give them the chance to contribute to society in their own, unique ways.”
